Bredonborough Many thanks to all

Bredonborough.

Many thanks to all the posters who werned & twerned their kind messages to yesterday’s Guestbook.

The wonder-delights and joyful anniversaries of April & May coincide with significant anniversaries, and less happy memories, of Endless Grief.

Yesterday’s diary, commenting on our anniversary, joyfully & powerfully experienced, did not mention that Mr. Alder was my Best Man, and Mr. Fenwick the Chief Usher, at our wedding.

Today’s anniversary, in addition to the happily-celebrated arriving-in-the-world day of Billy B., is that of the last personal telephone call I received from Mr. Alder. I was with T at her apartment in Chelsea, just off the King’s Road, and in between the two EG spaces: 63a, the offices of Messrs. Alder & Fenwick, and Blenheim House, the offices of the EG Music Group.

(En passant… just across the road & down from T was a detached house which had been excavated for the insertion of a basement garage, an impressively expensive maneouvre. At the time, I wondered who would have enough money to build a basement in central Chelsea. Later, the house was featured on national tv news when police arrived early one morning, Mrs. Kevin Maxwell leant out & threatened to call the police. The reply: We are the police!).

On May 17th. 1991 Mr. Alder called to say: The Main Men are back! My reply: It will never be the same again. What Mr. Alder sought to convey was, the partners had returned their attention to the music industry after several years directing it elsewhere (although Mr. Fenwick had earlier claimed to me, had never left music) replacing Dennis Collopy (see also here and here)as Main Man in the EG Music Group since April 1988. The official line, presented to me by the partners, was Dennis failed to deliver. Well. So that’s what happened.

And, it was never the same again. The future was presenting itself, in uncommon clothing.
